Garlic bread rolls are soft and fluffy dinner rolls packed with garlic flavor. These homemade rolls are made with lots of fresh garlic in the dough and brushed with even more garlic herb butter after baking.
Why make this recipe
These garlic rolls taste just like garlic bread and are incredibly easy to make. They serve as the perfect side to your favorite meal and are especially popular for holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
How to make Garlic Bread Rolls
First, you will make the garlic butter. Then, combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl before adding the wet ingredients, including the garlic butter. Knead the dough until it’s smooth and soft. After the dough is kneaded, cut it into 12 equal portions and shape them into round balls. Place the rolls in a baking dish and let them rise until they have doubled in size. Finally, brush the rolls with an egg wash, bake until golden brown, and then brush the warm rolls with more garlic herb butter before serving.

How to serve Garlic Bread Rolls
Serve these garlic rolls as a side dish for any meal. They are an excellent addition to holiday dinners for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter.
How to store Garlic Bread Rolls
Dinner rolls are best served the day they are made but can be stored for 2-3 days in an airtight container or ziplock bag at room temperature. You can also freeze the baked and cooled rolls in an airtight container for up to one month. To make them ahead, you can refrigerate the shaped rolls overnight before baking the next day. To reheat, cover the rolls with foil and bake at 350°F until warm, or microwave them for 20-30 seconds.
Tips to make Garlic Bread Rolls
- Use a stand mixer: This makes kneading the dough much easier than doing it by hand.
- Use a kitchen scale: For the most accurate measurements, especially for flour, using a scale is highly recommended to prevent dense and dry rolls.
- Don’t rush the rise: Let the rolls rise in a warm place until they double in size to ensure a fluffy texture.
- Shape uniform rolls: Make sure each roll is about the same size for even baking.
- Add more flavor: Brush the rolls with extra garlic butter right after they come out of the oven for more garlicky goodness.
Variation
For a cheesy twist, you can add up to 1/4 cup of shredded parmesan cheese to the bread dough and sprinkle more on top before baking.
