Description
Delicious and versatile rolls with a crisp crust and soft, chewy inside, perfect for any meal or occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra if needed)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let sit until frothy (about 5-10 minutes).
- Add in the oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Stir until combined.
- Add the remaining flour gradually until a soft dough forms that pulls away from the sides of the bowl but feels slightly tacky.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch the dough down, divide into 12 pieces, shape into rolls, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover loosely and let rise again for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400°F while the rolls rise.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For an extra crispy crust, place a pan of water in the oven while baking. Try adding herbs or garlic to the dough for added flavor.
