Description
A delicious take on a fan-favorite fast food item, transforming frozen fries into a mouthwatering dish topped with a special sauce, melted cheese, and caramelized onions.
Ingredients
Scale
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- ½ tbsp rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
- 2 tbsp sweet relish
- 1 tbsp sugar
- ½ tbsp chili flakes (optional)
- ½ bag frozen fries
- Cheddar cheese or American cheese
- 2 onions (diced)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: In a skillet, heat the butter and oil over medium heat. Add the diced onions and salt, stirring occasionally until they turn golden brown and soft, about 15-20 minutes.
- Make the special sauce: In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, rice vinegar, sweet relish, sugar, and chili flakes (if using). Mix until well blended. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Prepare the fries: Cook the frozen fries according to package instructions until golden and crispy. This usually takes about 20-30 minutes in the oven or a few minutes in an air fryer.
- Melt the cheese: Once the fries are done, sprinkle the cheese on top while still hot. Return them to the oven for about 2 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Assemble the fries: Place the cheesy fries on a serving plate and generously drizzle with the special sauce. Top with the caramelized onions, and voila!
Notes
These fries are perfect as a side dish to burgers or sandwiches. They can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
