- 4 large eggs, separated (room temperature)
- ¾ cup caster sugar
- 125 g melted butter (halal-certified if needed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup plain flour, sifted
- 2 cups lukewarm milk
- ¼ cup icing sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 340°F (170°C) and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form and set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks and caster sugar together until pale and fluffy.
- Mix in the melted butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Sift the flour into the mixture and gently mix until combined.
- Gradually pour in the lukewarm milk while mixing until thin.
- Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the batter without overmixing.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35–60 minutes until the top is golden and slightly firm.
- Allow the cake to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing. Dust with icing sugar before serving.
Notes
For the best results, use room temperature ingredients and avoid overmixing after adding egg whites. Chill before slicing for clean cuts.
