Description
Soft, sweet, and comforting, this Hawaiian Roll French Toast is made with pillowy rolls and a creamy vanilla-cinnamon custard, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (12-count) Hawaiian rolls
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons butter (for frying)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Maple syrup, optional for serving
Instructions
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and place them in a baking dish or large shallow bowl.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar until fully combined.
- Pour the custard over the cut rolls and let them soak for 10–15 minutes, turning once to ensure both sides are fully saturated.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Place the soaked rolls cut-side down and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and crispy. Add more butter as needed between batches.
- Transfer to plates, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with maple syrup or top with fruit and cream if desired.
Notes
Use soft, fresh Hawaiian rolls for best absorption. Don’t skip the soak — give it at least 10 minutes for maximum flavor.
