Description

A delightful dessert that magically forms three layers while baking, with a smooth custard on the bottom, a fluffy sponge on top, and a creamy middle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 eggs (separated, room temperature)
  • ¾ cup caster sugar
  • 125 g melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup plain flour (sifted)
  • 2 cups lukewarm milk
  • ¼ cup icing sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 340°F (170°C) and line an 8-inch square pan.
  2. Whip the egg whites to stiff peaks and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the melted butter and vanilla extract, then add the sifted flour.
  5. Slowly pour in the lukewarm milk, stirring until the batter is smooth.
  6. Gently fold in the whipped egg whites. The batter will be thin and slightly lumpy.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35 to 60 minutes until a golden top forms.
  8. Let the cake cool completely. Dust with icing sugar, slice, and enjoy!

Notes

Serve chilled or at room temperature. You can enjoy it plain or topped with fresh fruits or whipped cream.
